Eared Buckle: A small brass buckle found on the foreshore of the Thames river in London. A similar buckle may be seen on the brass of Robert de Bures. English, 14th century. According to Dress Accessories this type of buckle had the greatest period of longevity of any in the medieval period. The earliest examples were being thrown away as early as 1150 and as late as 1400. They are called "ornate outside edge" buckles, and frequently have projections, lobes, ridges or ears. Lobed Buckle: A small replica of a brass buckle found in
Dorset. According to Dress Accessories this type of
buckle had the greatest period of longevity of any in the medieval
period. The earliest examples were being thrown away as early as
1150 and as late as 1400. They are called "ornate outside edge"
buckles, and frequently have projections, lobes, ridges or ears.
It was cast from an original in a private collection. This buckle
