William came to America from London in the William and Francis, it embarked on 7 March 1632, and arrived at Roxbury, MA 5 June 1632. The customs records indicate that there were only 16 passengers aboard the ship, though in actuality there were more like sixty. Many of these extra passengers were stowaways trying to escape the "malignant Feebleness of Archbishop Laud." He may have been one of these unregistered passengers. It is known that Reverend Stephen Bachiler, Reverend Thomas James and Reverend Thomas Weld were among the unlisted passengers. He was made a freeman on 4 March 1635. In Roxbury he was a Steward of the Church beginning in 1632, when he arrived, until 1636, when he followed Thomas Hooker to found Hartford, CT.
