Erik is mentioned in the Saga of the Jomsvikings as kidnapping Sveyn Forkbeard. Erik earned his name of "the Victorious" by defeating Styrbjorn Starki's invasion. Sigrid went down in history in the Heimskringla of Snorri Sturluson as the woman whose face was slapped by the consort seeking Olaf Trygvason, King of Norway, saying "And why should I want to marry you, you heathen bitch?" In addition to marrying Erik, Sigrid is more commonly remembered for being the wife of Sveyn Forkbeard. Most serious scholars doubt that Sigrid ever existed.
