2. Captain Benjamin Newberry: Born 1624; Died 11 September 1689; Married 11 June 1646; Mary Allyn: Born 1628, in England; Died 14 December 1703, in MA. He was made a Captain in King Phillips War. He was also a member of the Council of War.

(See Wyatt & Chichester) Matthew was a man of high stature in the colony of Windsor, CT. He was made a freeman on 4 March 1635. He was a juror, deputy, assistant, magistrate and member of the congress of the United Colonies in 1660 and 1664. He willed all of his lands in Hartford to his son John Allyn. He lived in Charleston, MA in 1633; Cambridge in 1635; and Hartford, CT in 1637. In his own signature his name usually appears as Allyn though occasionally as Allen. In virtually all printed material and record books of the period it appears as Allen.

Thomas Newberry: Born 10 November 1594, of Devonshire, England; Died 1 December 1636, Windsor, Hartford, CT; Married 1619; Joan Dabinot: Born 1615, Yarcombe, Devonshire, England; Died 23 April 1645, Norwalk, Fairfield, CT. Thomas came to America in 1634. In all likelihood he shipped over on the Recovery. His second wife, Jane Dabinot, was a cousin of his first. He was made a Freeman on 3 September 1634. He was engaged to go with Mr. Warham to plant a colony at Windsor but he died before they left. When he died, his will of 1 December 1635/6, leaves his wife £200.00 above what she brought to the marriage. Each of his children should receive an equal share in his estate except for his three youngest daughters. They were each to receive £50.00 less than the others. In the inventory taken on 28 January 1636/7, his estates totaled £1520, 7 shillings, 6 pence. Of which £300.00 was land in England. This is the will of a very wealthy man. It is no small wonder that his son should marry a woman of Mary Allyn's apparent social class.

(See La Zouche) Sir Nicholas held the manors of Curry Malet in Somerset, Tockington in Gloucester, Hoo and Lullingstone in Kent, Dullingham in Cambridge, and Sutton and Stoke St. Edwald in Dorset. He was conservator of peace in Dorset in 1307. He was supervisor of array in Somerset and Dorset in 1311.

14. Sir Hugh, 1st Lord Poyntz: Born 25 August 1252; Died before 4 January 1307/1308. Sir Hugh fought in Wales 1277-1294. He held the manors of Curry Malet in Somerset, Tockington in Gloucester, Hoo St. Werbergh and Lullingstone in Kent, Dullingham in Cambridge, and Sutton in Dorset. Sir Hugh fought at the Battle of Carlaverock in Scotland in about 1300. He is mentioned in The Song of Caraverlock, in it men and women marvel at seeing two knights, Hugh Poyntz and Brian Fitz Alan in the same surcoat. This apparently caused a great deal of confusuion.

15. Sir Nicholas Poyntz, Lord of Tockington and Swell: Born about 1220; Died before 7 October 1273; Married Elizabeth Dyall: He held the manors of Curry Malet in Somerset, Tockington in Gloucester, Hoo in Kent, Dullingham in Cambridge, and Sutton in Dorset. These last two he passed to his son during his life.
