Robert De Vere, third Earl of Oxford, Lord Great Chamberlain of England: Born about 1164, Hatfield, Essex, England; Died 25 October 1221, England; Buried in the Priory of Hatfield, Broad Oak, Essex, England; Married Isabel Bolebec: Born about 1164, Hatfield, Essex, England; Died 2 February 1245, England. He was one of the principal Barons in arms against King John, and was elected one of the sureties for the observance of the Magna Carta. As a result he was excommunicated by Pope Innocent for his role in this rebellion. In the beginning of the reign of King Henry III, having made his peace with the young monarch after the battle of Lincoln, he was received into his favor and was in 1220-1221 appointed one of the judges in the Court of King's Bench. Unfortunately he died a few months after this appointment.
