The Strong Collection of Original WW2 German Schneider Images

A curated visual archive of wartime German tailors and associated craftsmen at work — preserved for history.

In the German Army of the Second World War, the term “Schneider” referred to the unit’s tailor. Company and battalion Schneiders were responsible for repairing worn uniforms, making alterations for fit, and attaching insignia, rank, and specialty badges. Working in improvised workshops, tents, railway cars, and field positions, they kept clothing presentable and within regulations even under front-line conditions. This collection preserves original images of these military tailors at work, highlighting the often-overlooked trades that supported the soldiers at the front.
